Sambar Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup pigeon pea
  • water as required
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt as required
  • 3 green chilli
  • 1 chopped carrot
  • 1/2 bottle gourd
  • 2 chopped tomato
  • 2-3 tsp desi ghee
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 2 red chilli
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 12-15 curry leaves
  • 3 medium size chopped onion
  • 2 inch grated ginger
  • 2 tsp sambhar masala
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 onion petals
  • 4 tsp tamarind pulp
  • Coriander leaves

Instructions
 

  • Take lentils(soaked for 20 minutes) in a pressure cooker.
  • Add water, turmeric powder,1 tsp salt, green chillies, carrot, bottle gourd, tomatoes and cook until 4 whistles.
  • Heat desi ghee and oil in a kadhai/wok.
  • Add red chilli, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and fry them. Add curry leaves, chopped onions and fry them.
  • Add grated ginger and fry.
  • Add sambhar masala, red chilli powder. Mix well.
  • Add onion petals. Mix well
  • Add cooked lentils and vegetables. Cook and mix well. Add 1 cup water and mix well.
  • Add Tamarind pulp, 2 tsp salt and cook on high flame. Stir often.
  • Add coriander leaves and cook for few minutes. Turn off the flame after 2 minutes.
  • Leave for 5 minutes
  • Pour in a bowl and Enjoy.
