This Besan Ladoo or Besan Ke Laddu is a very popular and one of our favorite Indian sweets, particularly in North India, which is made during any special occasions and celebrations. Besan Ladoo or Gram Flour Balls have a granular texture and a nutty and chewy texture made from Coarse Gram Flour(Besan), Ghee, Boora Sugar, and cardamom powder. Besan Laddu is made by slow roasting Besan till it turns golden brown in color and gives a nice aroma.
The granular texture and nutty taste and flavor are only possible when you use Tagar or Boora Sugar; otherwise, your Ladoos will get a shiny texture, which is not desirable, not the traditional method of making these Ladoos either, and does not give that melt-in-the-mouth feeling while chewing. I was waiting to make them for a long time, and this Diwali, on my Husband’s request, who is a die-hard fan of these Ladoos, I finally decided to give them a try.
Treat your family and friends with this delicious Indian sweet as a special Diwali recipe. With the help of a step-by-step guide with photos and video today, you will be able to make the best Besan Ladoo at home.

Besan Ladoo Ingredients
- 1 cup of Besan
- 1/2 cup of Desi Ghee
- 1 cup Bura Sugar/Tagar
- 1 tsp Green Cardamom Powder
- Chopped pistachios and Silver Vark
How To Make Besan Ke Laddu
1. Take a Kadai, add 1 cup of Besan. Do not turn on the gas yet. This is not the fine quality of Besan but slightly coarse in texture; however, if you do not have it, you can use the fine quality too to make the Ladoo.

2. Next, take 1/2 cup of Desi Ghee. Always prefer to use Homemade Ghee for making any sweets to enhance their taste. Here, we will not pour all the ghee at once. Keep 2 tbsp of ghee aside for now and pour the rest.

3. Stir and mix well on a low flame. The Besan will blend well with the Desi ghee and change color.

4. Pour 1 more tbsp of Ghee into the mixture and mix well in a circular motion for a few minutes.

5. Finally, add the leftover ghee and mix everything really well. Keep stirring the mixture.

6. Keep roasting on a low flame and keep stirring until the mixture changes color.

7. Finally, after continuously roasting for 15-20 minutes, the mixture has a really nice color and gives off a very nice aroma. The consistency is neither too dry nor too wet. This consistency is perfect for making the Ladoo now.

8. Now, transfer the mixture to a bowl, mix in intervals, and let the mixture cool down.

9. When the mixture has cooled down completely, we will add Bhura Sugar or Tagar, as it is popularly known. This is Homemade Tagar/Bhoora Chini that gives the Besan Ladoo its classic texture. Alternatively, you can also get it from the market. Also, add 1 tsp Green Cardamom Powder. You can skip it if you made Tagar using my recipe, as I’ve already added Elaichi Powder there.

10. Mix it well with the Besan Mixture so that everything blends well. You can adjust the quantity of Boora Sugar according to your requirements.

11. Take a big lump of the mixture in your palm and press hard to give it the shape of Besan Ladoo.

12. Similarly, make all the Besan Ladoos in the same manner. You can check the perfect granular texture of the Ladoo and see how well it has turned out. This is because we roasted the besan mixture thoroughly on a low flame and also used bhura chini, which resulted in the perfect texture and taste of Ladoo that it is famous for.

13. Finally, we will garnish it with chopped Pistachios and Silver Vark.

14. Serve this delicious Homemade Besan Ladoo to your friends and family this Diwali. Enjoy!
