About Arhar Dal Fry
Dal Fry is a very amazing and popular dish that is made in every Indian Household and is usually made with Toor or Arhar Dal. However, you can also use another type of dal like Moong dal for adding extra flavor to the dish. Other normal ingredients are spices and veggies. Avoid adding too many spices as it may upset the digestive system. Dal fry is served with rice and roti like Jeera Rice, Butter Naan, or even Parathas, Onion pickles, and Boondi Raita.

How to Make Arhar Dal Fry Recipe (Step-by-Step Instructions with Photos)
1. Take 1/2 cup Toor Dal in a cooker. I’m using Arhar/Toor Dal. I washed it 10 minutes ago before making the dal fry.
2. Add 3 cups of water to the cooker, salt as per taste, and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. Cook until 3-4 whistle on low to medium flame. After 3 whistles, turn off the flame and open the lid once the pressure goes away. Mash the lentils after opening the lid.
3. Add 3 tbsp oil to a kadhai/pan. Spread it evenly with a spatula. Once the oil is hot, add 2 dry red chilli. Stir and Fry on medium flame.
4. Add 1 finely chopped onion and fry for a few minutes until the onion gets soft.
5. Once the onion gets soft, add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste and saute with the onion.
6. Add 1 chopped tomato. Mix it well. Cover and cook for 4 minutes. After 4 minutes, we will check that tomatoes have become softer, Stir and Cover and cook for 2 more minutes.
7. Add salt to taste, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, and 1 tsp red chilli powder, and mix everything well. Don’t use a lot as we had already added salt and turmeric while cooking the dal in the cooker.
8. Add finely chopped coriander leaves for flavor. Mix it well.
9. Add boiled dal. Let it boil on a high flame first and after a boil, turn the flame to medium and cook for a few minutes.
10. Add chopped coriander leaves and cover the lid. let it cook and simmer for a few minutes. you can also add 1 tsp Kasuri methi and 1 tsp lemon juice at this stage to make it more flavorful and is totally optional.
11. After 5 to 10 minutes, Pour the cooked Arhar dal fry into a serving pan. Serve with roti and rice. Enjoy.
