Chilli potato or Aloo Chilli is a very crispy and delicious Indo-Chinese snack recipe that is a very popular and famous street food in India. It is of two types – dry and gravy. In this Chilli Potato recipe, I’ll be sharing the dry Chilli Potato recipe that is very easy to make. Chilli Potato or Aloo Chilli is loved by everyone. It is the perfect evening snack to make on a movie night when your friends and relatives are visiting or when you are organizing a home party and small function at home with your family. It is the perfect party snack to impress your friends and family.

About Chilli Potato

Chilli Potato is served as a starter or as a side dish to Fried Rice and Noodles. Chilli Potato is made using crispy fried potatoes tossed in sweet and sour spicy Chilli sauce. To make the sauce, we use spices such as cumin, coriander, Chilli, veggies such as onions, and capsicum, and sauces such as soy sauce, Chilli sauce, and tomato sauce. It is then deep fried in oil and served hot or else it may turn soggy. It is very popular in Restaurants and small stalls in India. It is flavorful with all the spices added to it.
For me, Chilly Potato is irresistible. This recipe has been loved by everyone who has made it by watching my video. Chilli Potato Recipe in Hindi Video (Chilli Potato ki Recipe)

Chilli Potato Recipe Ingredients

  • 5 large potatoes, peeled and sliced into thin pieces.
  • 1/2 tsp salt to boil
  • 2 tsp rice flour or corn flour
  • 2 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp rice flour or corn flour for the batter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour for the batter
  • 1 tbsp corn flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • water as required
  • Oil for frying
  • 10 garlic cloves
  • 3 green chilli
  • 1 green capsicum
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp red chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 2 tbsp of chopped spring onions for garnish

How to make Crispy Chilli Potato (Step-by-Step Instructions)

How to Fry Potatoes and make them crispy

1)Take 5 medium size potatoes. Wash and peel them. Cut them into French Fries shapes.

2) Soak the sliced potatoes in water and add to a bowl. The water level should be slightly more than the soaked potatoes. Add ½ tsp salt and cook until 1 boil. After 1 boil, turn the flame to low and let it cook for 5 more minutes.

3) After 5 minutes, turn off the flame and strain the excess water.

4) Add the potatoes to a bowl. Add 2 tsp rice flour(chawal ka atta). If you don’t have rice four available, then you can use corn flour(make ka atta). Add slightly less than 2 tsp of All-purpose flour(maida). Mix it well so that the potatoes are coated evenly with the flour. This helps in making them crispy. Keep it aside for now.

5) To make it even more crispy, we will prepare a batter now. Take a bowl and add 2 tbsp rice flour and 2 tbsp all-purpose flour. Add ¼ tsp salt and ¼ tsp red chilli powder. Mix it well.

6) Now, gradually add water in small quantities to the mix and prepare a thick batter.

7) Add the potato slices into the batter and mix them well with your hands so that they are evenly coated with the batter.

8) Heat oil in a deep fry kadhai/pan on high flame. Once the oil is heated, add the potato slices one by one.

9) Fry the potato slices on high flame. They will change color and turn slightly golden brown.

10) Now, we will fry the fried potatoes again. Heat the oil and add the fried potato slices. They will get fried very quickly and change the color as shown below and in the recipe video. You can hear the sound of how crispy it has become.

Transfer them to a plate.

How to Prepare Chilli Potato Sauce

11) Now we will prepare the spicy Chilli Potato Sauce. Heat 1-2 tbsp oil in a deep fry pan

Chop the following veggies: 10 garlic(finely chopped), 3 green chilli, spring onion, coriander leaves, 1 onion, and 1 capsicum.

Once the oil is heated, first add the chopped garlic, green chilli, and 1 tbsp sesame seeds and fry for a few seconds.

Next, add the onion and fry it. After a few seconds, add the capsicum and fry it.

As the Veggies are cooking, we will prepare a corn flour slurry by mixing 1 tbsp cor-flour with 1/4 cup of water.

12) Once the veggies are fried well, add 2 tsp soya sauce, and 2 tsp red chilli sauce and mix it well.

13) Add 1 tsp tomato ketchup, ½ tsp black pepper powder, and ½ tsp salt. Mix well and let it cook. Add ½ glass of water and let it cook until a boil.

14) Now add the corn flour slurry. The sauce will thicken after adding the corn flour slurry.

15) Let it cook and once the sauce is cooked well, turn off the flame.

16) Add the fried potato slices to the sauce and mix it well.

17) Add the chopped spring onion.

18) Mix everything well and let the potato slices coat with the sauce.

19) Garnish with coriander leaves.

20) Transfer to a plate and serve it hot.

How to Fry Potato

  • Now, gradually add waterin small quantities to the mix and prepare a thick batter. Addthe potato slices into the batter and mix them well with your hands so thatthey are evenly coated with the batter.
  • Heatoil in a deep fry kadhai/pan on high flame. Once the oil is heated, add thepotato slices one by one.
  • Fry the potato slices onhigh flame. They will change color and turn slightly golden brown.
    Now,we will fry the fried potatoes again. Heat the oil and add the fried potatoslices. They will get fried very quickly and change the color. Transfer them to a plate.

How to make Chilli Potato Sauce

  • Heat 1-2 tbsp oil in adeep fry pan
    Chop the followingveggies:
    10 garlic(finely chopped), 3 green chilli, spring onion, corianderleaves, 1 onion, and 1 capsicum.
    Once the oil is heated,first add the chopped garlic, green chilli, and 1 tbsp sesame seeds and fry fora few seconds.
    Next, add the onion and fry it.
    Next, add the capsicum and fry it.
  • Once the veggies are fried well, add2 tsp soya sauce, and 2 tsp red chilli sauce and mix it well.
  • Add 1 tsp tomato ketchup, ½ tsp blackpepper powder, and ½ tsp salt. Mix well and let it cook.
  • Add ½ glass of water and let it cookuntil a boil. Now add the corn flour slurry.
  • Letit cook and once the sauce is cooked well, turn off the flame.
  • Addthe fried potato slices to the sauce and mix it well.
  • Addthe chopped spring onion. Mixeverything well and let the potato slices coat with the sauce.

For Garnish

  • Garnish with chopped spring onions, coriander leaves and serve it hot.
