Idli Dosa Batter Ingredients
- 1 cup Urad Dal
- 3 cups of Rice – You can use medium-grain Rice such as Sona Masoori or Idli Rice.
- 1 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
- Water as Required
How To Make Idli Dosa Batter (Step-by-Step)
1. To make the perfect batter at home, we will take 1 cup of Urad Dal. Add it to a large mixing bowl.
2. Add 3 cups of Rice. As per my observation, the ratio of Dal to Rice at 1:3 is perfect for making the batter.
3. Wash it properly 3-4 times.
4. Add 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds.
5. Add water as required. Cover with a lid and keep it aside for 4 hours.
6. The Rice and Dal have soaked in water. Now drain the excess water.
7. Add the mixture to a grinding jar and a little water. Add the mixture in batches to grind it well.
8. Check the consistency of the mixture. It is not too thick and not too runny. We need a batter with flowing consistency. We will add water to it later.
9. Similarly, grind the mixture and add the batter to a mixing bowl. Also, clean the leftover batter in the grinder with a little water and add it to the bowl. You can see the perfect flowing consistency.
10. Close the lid and keep it aside for 8 hours to let it ferment. Please don’t keep it under an AC or in the Fridge. It should be kept at the warm room temperature.
11. The batter has fermented and is ready to make your favorite South Indian dishes.
It can also be kept in the refrigerator and used for a week. Just take the amount that you need to make the Idli or Dosa and keep the rest.
