Chaas, also known as Chaach, and Mattha, is a refreshing summer drink that comes in many variants. In this post, I’ll share the simple or unflavored Chaas. This homemade buttermilk recipe will show the simple step-by-step process of making Indian buttermilk from cream(Malai), collected over a week from full-fat milk at home.

Ingredients
- 1.5 liters of full-fat milk
- 1 tbsp Curd
- 1o ice cubes
- 2 cups of water
How To Make Butter Milk
1. To make simple Chaas at home, we will use Malai(cream) that I made at home using 1-1.5 liters of milk. I added 1 tbsp of Curd to this Malai 1 day ago and stored it in the refrigerator. Make sure to add the curd 1 day before making the Chaas. Iâve also shared the recipe for homemade Malai that you can check out. Making Malai at home is far better than buying it from the market.

2. Now, take a grinding jar and add the malai to it.

3. Add 8-10 ice cubes.

4. Add 1/2 cup of water to the jar.

5. Blend for 30 seconds to a smooth mixture first.

6. Add 1-1.5 cups of water to the jar. If you are using a small blender, then add the water in small batches.

7. Blend for 30-40 seconds again to remove the butter from the mixture.

8. Squeeze out the butter for any liquid.

9. The leftover liquid after removing the butter from Malai is known as Chaas.

10. You can use the leftover butter to make Ghee and Butter.

The homemade, simple Chaas is ready now. Pour and Enjoy!
