Soya Chunks Momos Recipe Ingredients

For Dough

  • 2.5 cups of maida (all-purpose flour)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Water
  • 1 tsp oil

For Stuffing

  • 150 gm Soya Chunks/Soyabean
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp chopped ginger
  • 2 tbsp chopped green chilli
  • 3 medium-sized finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • Salt as per taste

How to Make Soya Chunks Momos Recipe at Home (Step-by-Step Instructions)

1. To Make Soya Momos, take 150gm soya chunks/soybean.

2. Take 1 liter of warm water in a separate pot. Cover and soak the soya chunks in the water for at least 20 minutes. Keep it aside.

3. Let’s make the momos dough in the meantime. Take 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour(maida) and ½ tsp salt in a mixing bowl. Mix it well.

4. Gradually start adding water to make dough. The dough should be a little tight and not too soft. After making the dough, pour 1 tsp of oil and apply it to the dough. Cover it and keep it aside for 20 minutes.

5. Now, we will make the stuffing/filling. Check the soaked soya chunks. It has doubled in size. Squeeze out excess water and keep the soya chunks aside.

6. Take a grinding jar and add the soya chunks into it. Grind it in batches.

7. You can check the consistency of the soya chunks below. Keep it aside.

8. Let’s make the filling now. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan and add the following finely chopped veggies: 2 tbsp chopped garlic, 2 tbsp chopped ginger, and 2 tbsp chopped green chilli. Cook it on high flame for half a minute.

9. After 30 seconds, add 3 medium-sized finely chopped onions and cook on high flame for 1 minute.

10. After cooking the onions for a minute, add 1 tbsp soya sauce and mix it well. Cook for half a minute.

11. After 30 seconds, add salt as per taste and 1 tsp black pepper powder. Mix it well.

12. Now, add the soya chunks and mix them well. Turn the flame to medium and let it cook for 3 minutes while mixing.

13. The stuffing mixture is ready. Keep it aside in a separate pot or container to let it cool.

14. Next, check the dough. Knead it well for a few seconds and divide it into two parts. Make small rough balls.

15. Take a dough ball, press gently, and flatten it slightly.

16. Now, take the small dough and put it on the rolling board. Dust it with maida. Take the rolling pin and start rolling the dough. The size is the same as that of a Poori. Don’t make it too thick or too thin.

17. In the meantime, Grease the momos basket with oil as we are going to make momos in a Kadai. Keep it aside.

18. Take the Poori and place 1-1.5 tbsp of stuffing in the middle of the puri.

How to Fold Momos (2 Ways)

19. Momos can be folded in different ways. I’ll show you two methods of folding it. The first one is tricky and the Second one is Simple.

20. In the first method, after placing the stuffing in the middle, start making pleats with two fingers.

Fold and bring the pleats together.

21. Do the same on the left side and then the right side. After that, stick both together.

22. As you reach the other end, press the stuffing inside using the thumb of the other hand. Doing the same gives the unique design as shown below.

23. The second one is a simple way in which we first place the stuffing in the middle and apply water on the sides of the Poori.

24. Start gathering the sides together with one hand while pressing the stuffing inside with the other hand.

Folding

25. Remove the extra part at the top. This is the most common and classic method of folding the momos.

26. In the same manner, prepare all the momos as per the design you prefer. Place the Momos on the steamer basket and let’s move to steam them.

How to Steam Momos

27. Boil water in a large pan or kadhai. Alternatively, you can use Momos Maker if you have it.

28. After the water is boiled, place the momos steamer plate on top of the kadhai.

29. Cover the plate and cook for 15 minutes on low to medium flame.

30. After 15 minutes, remove the cover. The steamed momos are ready. Turn off the flame.

  • Now, take the small dough, rub it with maida(flour). using rolling pin and board, Start rolling the dough. The size is the same as that of a poori. Don't make it too thick or too thin.
  • Grease the momos plate with oil. Keep it aside.
  • Take the poori and place 1-1.5 tbsp of stuffing in the middle of the puri. Apply water on the sides.
  • Start gathering the sides together with one hand while pressing the stuffing inside with the other hand.
  • Remove the extra part at the top. This is the most common and classic method of folding the momos. Prepare all the momos.

  • After the water is boiled, place the momos steamer plate on top of the kadhai.
  • Cover the plate and cook for 12-15 minutes on low to medium flame.
  • After 15 minutes, remove the cover. The steamed momos are ready. Turn off the flame.
