The Butter Naan is a favorite Indian flatbread that is loved by everyone to enjoy with our paneer curries. Naan is usually made with milk, curd, sugar, salt, all-purpose flour, and yeast or baking powder and soda. Naan is usually cooked in a tandoor. However, in this recipe, I’ve shown how to make Naan without a tandoor on a Tawa, so you will learn how to make soft butter naan at home on a Tawa or Skillet directly on the stovetop flame by placing it upside down. I’ve also shared an easy way to make Mini Naan directly on a Pan. Naan is eaten with curry, especially paneer curries like Paneer Butter Masala and Paneer Tikka Masala. They are also available in many flavors and textures. The dough to make Naan is usually made using yeast as it is the quick and easy way, but I haven’t used yeast to make Naan in this recipe, and instead used baking powder and baking soda. I also used kalonji and coriander to make it more flavourful.
Follow the step-by-step instructions to make this flavourful and soft Butter Naan on a Tawa without yeast. Butter Naan Ingredients
- 1/2 cup curd
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp refined oil
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- Kalonji and coriander leaves for flavoring
How to Make Butter Naan at Home
1. Take a mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup curd. The curd should not be chilled and must be at room temperature.

2. Add the following ingredients:
1/4 cup of milk, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, and 2 tsp refined oil.

3. Mix everything well using a whisk to create a lump-free mixture.

4. Add 3 cups of all-purpose flour.

5. Gradually add water in small quantities and make a soft dough. Do not add a lot of water at once, or else the dough may become too sticky.

6. Grease the same bowl with refined oil and keep the dough inside. Apply some refined oil to the dough, too. Keep a wet cloth to cover the dough and keep it for 30 minutes.

7. After 30 minutes, grease your hands with oil and knead the dough for a few minutes.

8. Divide the dough into small parts. Make small balls out of the dough. This will help you make Naan easily. Make sure to keep the size of the balls as per the size of the Naan you prefer. I’m making medium-sized Naan.

9. Take a ball and apply some flour over it.

10. Roll it to give it a roti-like shape.

11. Apply kalonji and some coriander leaves on one side. Roll it so that it may stick well with the dough.

12. Next, give it a Naan-like shape by rolling and stretching one side with your hands.

13. Apply water on the other side so that it will stick well to the Tawa.

14. Take a Tawa. Heat it on a high flame. Apply some water to balance the heat. Place the Naan on the Tawa.

15. When the bubbles have formed, we would press the Naan on the Tawa and lift it.

16. Now, we will directly roast the Naan over the flame and cook it.

17. Apply butter to the Naan.

18. The butter Naan is ready. Transfer it to a plate.

19. Enjoy the soft Butter Naan with any Paneer curry dishes.

Mini Butter Naan Recipe
In this Mini Butter Naan Recipe, make the Mini Naan Bread recipe without yeast directly on a Pan.

Mini Naan Ingredients
- 2 cups All-Purpose-Flour
- 1 tsp of salt
- 1 tsp of sugar
- 1/2 tsp of baking soda
- 1 tsp of baking powder
- 1/2 cup of curd
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 tbsp of cooking oil
- Butter
- Kalonji seeds
- chopped coriander leaves

How To Make Mini Naan
1. To make Mini Naan, take 2 cups of all-purpose flour in a bowl, add 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of sugar, 1/2 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of baking powder. Then, add 1/2 cup of curd, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 tbsp of cooking oil of your choice or butter.

2. Mix everything well together. Knead to prepare a soft dough. Keep adding milk as required while preparing the dough.

3. To make a smooth Naan later, apply a little oil in your palms and fingers, and tuck the dough.

4. Apply a little oil in the bowl too and on top of the dough, cover with a cling film to avoid any air from passing through, and leave it for 1 hour to let it ferment.

5. After 1 hour, we will check the dough. It has set well, so now we will knead the dough a little and start preparing small balls out of it.

6. Prepare small balls out of the dough to prepare the Naan. As we are going to make Mini Naan today, we can prepare small balls. You can adjust the size as per your preference.

7. To make Naan, place a dough ball on a rolling board. Keep the rest of the dough balls covered, or they will become hard.

8. Apply some all-purpose flour on the board and on both sides of the Dough ball. Now, place some Kalonji seeds and chopped coriander leaves on top of the ball.

9. Roll with a rolling Pin. If it starts sticking, apply more flour. You can see that I have rolled it into a roti-like shape and kept it thin.

10. To cook the Naan roti, place a non-stick or Iron Pan on the gas on a medium flame. As soon as it heats, place the Naan on the Pan and lightly fry it, and apply butter on top.

11. Fry it on both sides till light brown spots appear on the Naan.

12. You can see that the Naan has been baked really well from both sides. Keep it in a serving plate.

13. Bake all the Naan in the same manner.

14. Serve with a delicious Curry and Salad.

Enjoy!
