What is Curd
Curd or Dahi is made using fermenting milk using a starter. It is the most popular side dish in India where it has been prepared for thousands of years. It can be served with a heavy meal or used to make other popular dishes.
The Difference between Yogurt and Curd
While both are made by fermenting milk, curd has a lighter consistency than Yogurt which has a thicker consistency. The process of making them is also different.

500 ml Milk
1 tbsp Curd
How To Make Curd at Home
1. To make thick Curd, take 500 ml of full cream milk in a pot.
2. Now, turn on the gas and put the pot on the gas on medium to high flame. Wait for a boil.
3. After boiling, let the milk simmer on a low flame for 5 minutes. This will give it a thicker consistency. Stir often in between.
4. Turn off the flame after 5 minutes. Let the milk cool down a bit. It should be warm and not hot. Check with 1 finger if it is still too hot then let it cool down further or proceed to make curd.
5. Add 1 tbsp curd to the bowl.
6. Mix well using a hand whisker.
7. Cover the lid and keep it aside for 6-7 hours. It usually takes 4-5 hours in the summer season.
8. The curd is ready now.
9. You can check the thickness and consistency of the texture of this delicious homemade Curd.
10. You can serve it along with meals in clay pots. Enjoy

- Cover the lid and keep it aside for 6-7 hours. It usually takes 4-5 hours in the summer season.
- The curd is ready now. Serve in clay pots. Enjoy
