Dal Fara is a very popular dish made in North India, especially in Uttar Pradesh. Whenever I feel like making something different than normal Rice and Dal, I always make this Chana and Urad Dal Fara with Rice. It tastes amazing and is also very healthy. It is made during festivals and celebrations too and can be served as an evening snack or dinner along with the spicy Green Chutney.

Dal Fara Recipe Ingredients
- 2 cup water
- 1 tbsp desi ghee
- 2 cups rice Flour – Grind 2 cups of rice in a Mixer grinder to make Rice Flour
- 1 cup soaked Chana Dal
- ½ cup soaked urad dal
- 5 green Chilli
- 8-10 garlic cloves
- 2-inch ginger
- coriander leaves
- spring onion
- 1 tsp cumin
- salt to taste
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- ¼ tsp Hing
- 2-3 tbsp oil/desi ghee
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- ¼ tsp Red chilli powder
- coriander leaves
- Water for cooking
- Oil for greasing
How To Make Chana Dal Fara
1. Heat 2 cups of water in a Kadai. Let the water come to a boil. As the water comes to a boil, add 1 tbsp desi ghee and let it melt on high flame.
2. When the ghee melts, add 2 cups of Rice Flour and mix it well with the water. Turn the flame to low to medium and Keep stirring and mixing it so that it absorbs the water and gets a thick consistency. Turn off the flame, cover the lid, and keep it aside for 5 minutes.
3. After 5 minutes, remove the lid and mix it. Pour the mixture on a plate. Now, knead and press it with the help of a Spatula or from the back of a small steel bowl to remove the lumps.
4. Now, grease your hands with oil and create a dough from the mixture. Cover it and leave for 15 minutes.
5. Take 1 cup soaked Chana Dal and ½ cup soaked urad dal. Add the Chana Dal in a grinder and grind to make a paste-like mixture and keep it in a bowl.
6. In the same grinder, add the soaked Urad dal and 5 green Chilli, 8-10 garlic cloves, 2-inch ginger, coriander leaves, spring onion, and 1 tsp cumin. Grind to make a paste-like mixture.
7. Keep the mixture in the same bowl. Add salt to taste, ¼ tsp Turmeric powder, and ¼ tsp Hing.
8. Mix everything well and make a smooth mixture. Keep it aside.
9. Check to dough and mix it well. Make small balls from the dough.
10. Dust with rice flour. Roll it using a rolling board and pin. Not place a steel bowl and cut the edges out to get it in a circle-shaped
11. Now, we will place the mixture inside and fold it from both sides. Please keep them on a plate.
12. Take a Kadai. Fill it with water and let it boil. Take a plate on which we will steam and cook the Fara. Place the plate on the Kadai.
13. Cover the lid and cook the Fara for 12-15 minutes on medium flame. Cook the others in the same manner.
14. Cut the Fara into pieces. You can cut it into any shape that you prefer.
15. Now, we will temper the Fara. Heat 2-3 tbsp oil/desi ghee in the Kadai. Add 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp Mustard seeds, ¼ tsp Red Chilli powder, and coriander leaves. Stir well.
16. Now add the Fara to the Kadai and mix well with the spices. Fry on low to medium flame.
17. Fry until they become crispy. Flip them constantly until both sides become crispy and get cooked well.
Serve the delicious and crispy Dal Fara with Green chutney and Enjoy.
